Children’s Health Policy Centre

At the Children’s Health Policy Centre, we are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred this week in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. We share in mourning for those injured and killed — many of them children. We hold the families, students and community of Tumbler Ridge in our thoughts, and with others, we will keep working for a better world for children everywhere.

We are an interdisciplinary research group in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. We focus on improving social and emotional wellbeing for all children, and on the public policies needed to reach this goal. Our work complements the mission of the Faculty of Health Sciences to advance the health of populations locally, nationally and globally.

We acknowledge that we live in and work on First Peoples’ ancestral lands — including the q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We understand and commit to the ongoing work of reconciliation that is required to honour all Indigenous Peoples.
